Patna: In a major bureaucratic overhaul, the Bihar government on Sunday reassigned 16 senior IPS officers across important departments and operational divisions, indicating a broad restructuring in the state police administration.

The Home Department released an official notification confirming the transfers, which include the posting of Vikas Vaibhav as Inspector General (IG) of Magadh Zone, Gaya, and Sudhanshu Kumar as Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order.

The reshuffle impacts multiple important branches, including the Economic Offences Unit, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Cyber Crime and Security Unit, Bihar Special Armed Police, Railways, and Technical Services.

Sudhanshu Kumar Assumes Role as ADG (Law and Order)

Senior IPS officer Sudhanshu Kumar, a 1996-batch officer, has been shifted from his earlier posting as ADG of the State Crime Records Bureau and Modernisation to take charge of one of the most significant positions in the state police structure – ADG (Law and Order).

His posting comes at a time when the Bihar administration is emphasizing stronger policing and internal security mechanisms throughout the state.

Vikas Vaibhav Posted as IG of Magadh Zone

Prominent IPS officer Vikas Vaibhav has returned to an active law enforcement assignment after serving as Adviser to the Bihar State Planning Board. He has now been appointed as Inspector General of the Magadh Zone headquartered in Gaya.

Recognized for his energetic leadership style and strong public engagement, Vaibhav’s appointment is likely to strengthen policing and administrative coordination in the strategically vital Magadh region.

  • The reshuffle also features multiple promotions and senior-level departmental adjustments:

  • Paresh Saxena (1994 batch), ADG of Civil Defence, has been elevated to Director General in the same department.

  • Nirmal Kumar Azad (1994 batch), previously ADG of Technical Services and Communication, has been appointed Director General (Training).

  • Amit Kumar Jain (1996 batch) will now serve as ADG of the Economic Offences Unit.

  • Nayyar Hasnain Khan (1996 batch) has been assigned as ADG of the Bihar Special Armed Police.



Amit Lodha Moved to Technical Services and Communication

Noted IPS officer and author Amit Lodha (1998 batch) has been transferred from the State Crime Records Bureau and Modernisation to lead the Wireless and Technical Services wing as ADG.

The reassignment places him in charge of Bihar Police’s key communication and technology systems.

Cyber Crime, CID and Special Branch Receive New Appointments

Several sensitive divisions have also been given new leadership:

Amrit Raj (1998 batch) has been appointed ADG of the Cyber Crime-cum-Security Unit.

K S Anupam, earlier Special Secretary in the Home Department’s Special Branch, will serve as ADG (Weaker Sections), CID.

Ranjit Kumar Mishra, formerly IG of the Cyber Crime and Security Unit, has been transferred to CID.

Sanjay Kumar, who was serving in the Bihar Special Armed Police, has been appointed IG of the Special Branch.

Railways, Provisioning and Welfare Departments Restructured

Other significant appointments include:




  • Kamal Kishore Singh appointed as ADG (Railways).

  • Ajitabh Kumar assigned responsibility of the State Crime Records Bureau and Modernisation.

  • Sanjay Singh transferred from ADG (Training) to lead Budget, Appeals and Welfare.

  • P Kannan moved from IG (Railways) to IG (Provisioning).
