Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday implemented a major reshuffle of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, transferring multiple officials to important assignments in intelligence, CID, and Special Branch units across the state.
The transfers and appointments, which come into effect immediately, were announced by the Home (SC) Department through an order signed by Additional Chief Secretary K. Manivasan.
The reshuffle is intended to strengthen internal security, intelligence coordination, and the functioning of specialised investigative divisions in Tamil Nadu.
Senior DIG-Level Appointments in Intelligence Wing
G. Dharmarajan Appointed as DIG, Intelligence (Security)
Dr G. Dharmarajan, who had been serving as DIG of Police, Vellore Range, has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Intelligence (Security), Chennai.
Pakerla Cephas Kalyan Appointed DIG, Intelligence (Internal Security)
Pakerla Cephas Kalyan, formerly Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), South Zone, Greater Chennai Police, has been assigned as DIG, Intelligence (Internal Security), Chennai.
P. Saravanan Shifted to CID Intelligence
P. Saravanan, who was serving as DIG, Tirunelveli Range, has been appointed as DIG, CID Intelligence, Chennai.

Focus on Internal Security and Intelligence Coordination
Officials stated that the extensive reshuffle is aimed at reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s intelligence and security framework by placing experienced officers in strategic assignments overseeing internal security, organised crime, and specialised investigations.
The transfers assume importance as the state government seeks to improve coordination among intelligence agencies and enhance operational efficiency in sensitive policing divisions.
