Suvendu Adhikari Restructures CMO with 2 IAS and 7 WBCS Officers
Kolkata: The newly elected CM Suvendu Adhikari-led West Bengal government on Sunday carried out another significant bureaucratic reshuffle, posting two IAS officers and seven WBCS (Executive) officers to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) as the new administration under Suvendu Adhikari continues its restructuring of the state bureaucracy.
The latest postings are being interpreted as part of a broader administrative revamp following the formation of the new BJP-led government in West Bengal.
P Promoth and Navneet Mittal Appointed as Joint Secretaries in CMO
According to official notifications, P Promoth and Navneet Mittal have been appointed as Joint Secretaries in the Chief Minister’s Office with immediate effect.
P Promoth was earlier working as Joint Secretary in the MSME and Textiles Department.
Navneet Mittal was serving as Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Paschim Medinipur.
Both officers will take on key roles in supporting the functioning of the Chief Minister’s Office.
Seven WBCS Officers Posted as Senior Deputy Secretaries
In addition to the IAS postings, the government has also assigned seven WBCS (Executive) officers as Senior Deputy Secretaries in the CMO.
The officers have been drawn from departments such as:
- Housing
- Fisheries
- Land Reforms
Various district administrations
As per the official notification, the following officers have been posted as Senior Deputy Secretaries in the Chief Minister’s Office:
- Pramit Das (Batch 2003) – Earlier District SWO and SEO, Howrah
- Samrat Chakraborty (Batch 2004) – Previously in the Housing Department
- Amartya Chakraborti (Batch 2007) – Shifted from the Fisheries Department
- Ayan Dutta Gupta (Batch 2007) – Former Sub-Divisional Officer, Diamond Harbour
- Rajarshi Nath (Batch 2008) – Earlier SDO, Bardhaman Sadar North
- Dip Bhaduri (Batch 2008) – Previously District SWO and SEO, Purba Medinipur
- Surajit Ray (Batch 2011) – Former Additional Director, DLRS
These postings are expected to improve administrative coordination and decision-making within the Chief Minister’s Office.
Administrative Overhaul Continues Under New Government
The reshuffle comes just a day after the state government transferred or reassigned 16 officers who were serving in the CMO during the tenure of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
These moves indicate a comprehensive restructuring of the state’s top administrative framework under the new leadership.
Retired IAS Officer Subrata Gupta Appointed Adviser
Soon after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in, retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta was appointed as Adviser to the Chief Minister.
In another key appointment, Shantanu Bala was designated as the Chief Minister’s Private Secretary.
Part of Broader Bureaucratic Reorganization
These appointments are being viewed as a strategic step to establish a new administrative structure after the BJP ended the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule in the state.
Strengthening the CMO with experienced IAS and WBCS officers is expected to help the government implement its policy agenda more effectively.
BJP Secures Massive Mandate in West Bengal
The BJP won 206 seats in the 294-member West Bengal Assembly, marking a major shift in the state’s political landscape.
The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), which had governed West Bengal for 15 years under Mamata Banerjee, was reduced to 80 seats.
